Nego Nago

Wow…I haven’t updated this website over years!! 😛 For those who interested in capoeira, I like to post something from time to time. To re-start the FDA Tokyo website something useful, I would post a song I’m trying to learn. “Nego Nago” is the capoeira song, so far I only found out at Mestre Ananias CD vol.1. Lyrics is followings. Nego nagô, quando morre, vai na tumba de banguê. Os parentes vão dizendo, urubu tem que comer. Aqui babá, a cangerê, nego nagô tem catinga de Sariguê. I am not expert of Portuguese, but I like to put rough translation for myself. When Nego nagô dies, there goes into a …

2012 April Batizado e Troca de Cordas in Osaka

We had an awesome Batizado in Osaka at the beginning of April. A whole group of capoeiristas from around Japan descended on Osaka for 3 days of incredible workshops and festivities.   Contra Mestre Espeto, my teacher in Osaka, organized the event and we had 5 special guests, Mestre Sucuri and Professor Lingüiça from capoeira Zoador, Contra Mestre Lua Cheia From Capú Japon, Professor Neguinho from Capoeira Marana and Graduado Caçapa From Grupo Bantus Capoeira Japão. Mestre Sucuri taught a workshop on how to really use your body properly in capoeira. One thing I really took away from the workshop was how to use my abdominal muscles when doing an …

2012 April Batizado e Troca de Cordas

The dates have been decided for Forca da Arte’s next “Batizado e Troca de Cordas” The Batizado weekend will be Friday 6th, Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th April in Osaka. The Batizado is the most important event in a capoeira group’s calendar.  People who have started capoeira recently will be welcomed formally into the group and will receive their first white belt. People who have already participated in a Batizado previously will receive a higher belt (troca de cordas). The upcoming April Batizado looks like it will be a great one! Contra Mestre Espeto and the Osaka group have been working hard to put on an exciting event. Over …

Learn!

From the day you start capoeira you will never stop learning. Capoeira is a mix of so many different skills that there is always something new to try and get better at. It is impossible to get bored. At the base are the moves – kicks, floor movements and acrobatics but all students study the music and singing as well. In addition we often introduce other forms of dance such as samba and maculele and, with classes a mixture of English, Japanese and Portuguese, you will probably end up learning a new language too!

Have fun!

More than anything, capoeira is a lot of fun. Exercising together with music really gets the adrenalin going and each game of the capoeira is like a theatrical performance that players, no matter their level, can play in.  After a hard week’s work, there is nothing like jumping around a room doing cartwheels, walking on your hands and throwing some kicks to get rid stress. Each class is an opportunity to meet people and make new friends and we often go for dinner or drinks after class. Capoeira attracts a very international group of people and we have students from Europe, America, Australia as well as Japan. Come and join the fun! …

Get Fit!

A capoeira class is a complete body workout. In the class we work on flexibility, strength and stamina. The class is a lot of fun so a lot of the time you don’t even realise you are exercising. But from the slight muscle ache after the first class and the weight you’ve lost a few weeks down the line, you know you are doing something right! For more on capoeira classes click here.

Osaka capoeira magic!

Last weekend, Capoeira Força da Arte held it’s “Batizado e Troca de Corda” event in Osaka. A few of us from the Tokyo group travelled down to Osaka for the weekend to take part in a really fun event. Mestre Marcelo taught 3 incredible workshops as a warm-up to the Batizado. The theme of the workshops was “expressão” or “expression” in English. They were all about adding more expression into our capoeira games. Mestre has a great style of teaching workshops that combines instruments, singing, capoeira movements and lots of chances to practice what he teaches in the roda. The Batizado was on the Sunday and what an event it was! …

2011 Força da Arte Batizado and Troca de Cordas

Our group will hold its main batizado and troca de cordas event at the end of September (23rd, 24th, 25th). There will be 3 exciting days of workshops culminating in the Batizado event itself on 25th September at Namba Hatch in the centre of Osaka. A capoeira batizado is the most important event of every capoeira group and what all capoeiristas train hard for.  “Batizado” literally means baptism and it is where new students receive their first belt and are officially welcomed into the group. Other students have the chance to move up to a higher belt if they have been training well during the year. This year, as usual …
